Frost Bite Follies was Great! On Saturday, January 6 the Sandy River
Chapter met at Dea's restaurant, (except for a few underhanded cheaters
:-)) and headed to Oxbow to launch 13 boats on the river. A total of 37
members participated. Russ Nishitani with his fish We fished through most of the morning with early luck coming to Russ Nishitani catching a nice winter steelhead at the armpit hole on some rubber eggs that Trevor Storlie had provided at the prior meeting's talk. Brandon Glass also hooked up with a nice winter native just below the Oxbow boat ramp on a white jig. Kris Peters also hooked up with a late summer steelhead on a size 30 hotshot "clown" plug below the powerlines being backtrolled in Eric Neiwert's boat. Kris plays her steelhead Colonel Thomas provided "encouragement".
Part of the Sandy Chapter "Armada" Just after 11:30 the wind kicked up and we all retreated to camp Angelos for a hot lunch served by Gus Kriara and his crew in front of a roaring fire. This is one of the highlights of this trip. Hot stew served in sourdough bread bowls, and caesar salad filled us up and prepared us for the rest of the day's fishing. Trevor Storlie, Larry Palmer, Nick Galash Jr and Sr., Thomas Schwab, and others enjoy lunch. With the wind whipping us around though the rest of the trip from the Greek hole to Dabney was short. However, Russ Nishitani hooked up with another fish and Trevor Storlie picked up a nice summer run before the day was through. A great time was had by all in this largest Frostbite Follies to date. |
