Sandy River Wild Fish Policy Currently, the Sandy River is being managed for wild fish by splitting the watershed into two different sections, one above and one below Marmot dam. Fish are sorted at Marmot dam and fin clipped fish are recycled back to near the mouth to give anglers another opportunity to catch them. non-fin clipped fish are allowed to continue migrating upstream to spawn in the upper reaches. With the removal of Marmot dam from the Sandy the split basin system will change as there will no longer be a way to sort fish without some kind of a capture facility. The association of Northwest Steelheaders has taken up the battle to make sure that all anglers and boaters in the state continue to have access to the rivers. However, there are organizations and individuals who oppose us on this issue. Find out what is happening currently in this fight by visiting our River Access and Navigability page. |
